A ballet that tells the story of Princess Aurora. At her christening, the evil fairy Carabosse, offended for not being invited, curses Aurora so that on her 16th birthday she will prick her finger with a spindle and die. The kind fairy Lilac modifies the curse: Aurora will not die, but instead fall into a deep sleep until she is awakened by a prince's kiss. On her 16th birthday, Aurora pricks her finger and falls into the prophesied sleep. After many years, Prince Desiré finds Aurora, wakes her with a kiss, and breaks the curse. The ballet concludes with the wedding of Aurora and Desiré, celebrated with the presence of various fairy tale characters.
